Competition – Win a CALAFANT Horse and Carriage Set with #AsobiAmbassadors

I am very excited to have been asked to join the #AsobiAmbassadors team as a guest blogger for August. This month the Ambassadors team are reviewing products from CALAFANT and we chose to review the Horse Drawn Carriage kit.IMG_3820CALAFANT is made from 100% recyclable cardboard and the pre-cut, pre-punched pieces slot together easily so that children can create their own masterpieces! They are easy to build, fun to decorate and strong to play with. The kit contained all the pieces to assemble the horse and carriage, and a set of 6 felt tip pens for decorating the finished item.

As patience isn’t L’s strong point at the moment(!) I decided to assemble the pieces before I gave it to her. I’m glad I did as at just 3 the assembly would have been too fiddly for her. It was quite simple to understand and only took me 2 minutes to do and for an older child I’m sure it would be fine. I found that all the pieces fitted together perfectly and the finished model was strong and sturdy.IMG_3824

When L saw the horse and carriage she was thrilled with it and couldn’t wait to get started on the decoration. She enjoyed using the included colouring pens on it, and later went to get her own crayons and pencils so she could add more colours to it!

IMG_3830

I didn’t guide her at all with the decoration, and the end result is a bright colourful model which she has been enjoying using for imaginative play. Cinderella has made several trips to the ball in the carriage, and L’s favourite toy rabbit has enjoyed being the driver!

IMG_3834

There are a whole range of designs to choose from, from simple vehicles to whole palaces and castles which look like they would offer hours of fun for older kids. We were really impressed by how sturdy the pieces are and the finished product stands up to lots of playing.

Having sampled what CALAFANT has to offer, I’d highly recommend these kits and plan to buy some as presents for Birthdays and Christmas. I know L would like to tackle one of the larger models too – the castle is next on her wish list!

Sew Lomax Baby Range Review

It’s now just over 4 weeks until baby is scheduled to make his entrance into the world, and my thoughts are turning to the practical items that make life with a new baby easier and more enjoyable. As a second time mum the top of my list was muslins. Before L came along I didn’t really think they would be high on my list of useful items, but pretty quickly I came to realise that they had a multitude of uses, from mopping faces, lining cold change mats, comforters to sun shades and light blankets!

SewLomax-Logo_www.picandmiximages.co.uk

I was offered a pack of Sew Lomax Large Muslins to review and jumped at the chance. Each muslin is a whopping 100cm x 100cm and made from soft 100% cotton. They come in three colour choices, pink, blue and green and all feature some gorgeous Sew Lomax designs.

Each pack contains one safety pin print, one dummy print and one plain white with an embroidered safety pin in the corner.  The set was beautifully boxed and would make a very welcome practical gift for a new mum. I chose to receive the green as I am trying to avoid having everything blue! Its a gorgeous colour and would be perfect for anyone who is expecting a surprise. The large set retails at £26 which I think is a fair price for the quality and size of these muslins. I can’t wait to use them on baby, and think they will make lovely comforters and swaddles for him. A small set of muslins is also available for £12.50 which has three 50cm square muslins in the same design.

The new range of baby essentials from Sew Lomax also includes dribble bibs and towel and flannel sets, all of which feature the same cute designs.

Emma Lomax has been taking the fashion and beauty world by storm for the last two years with her ethically produced collection of stylish wash bags & accessories and this Summer she introduced her highly anticipated baby range! Her debut collection of must-have essentials consists of beautifully designed and ethically produced muslins, dribble bibs and now baby bath time towel and flannel sets.

Infacol Colic Support Centre

When you first have a baby there is a huge steep learning curve. You have to develop a whole new vocabulary. Words such as weaning, winding and colic are all suddenly thrown about and you feel like you need a dictionary! When your newborn is crying inconsolably its very hard as a first time mum especially to know whether its perfectly normal or a possible sign of colic. I remember being told about Infacol, and advised that it may be something to try.

Colic affects one in four babies and is often associated with crying fits lasting for three hours or more, often during late afternoon or evening. Its a very distressing condition for mum and baby, especially because any attempts to soothe and comfort the baby may not work.

Colic is listed in the top three concerns of new mums according to a Bounty Research Poll so Infacol, Britain’s number one selling colic remedy, have launched the Virtual Colic Clinic app to help. It offers 24/7 support  with video answers to questions about colic and can be accessed through smartphones, tablets and desktops. The information can be found at www.ColicHelp.co.uk.

Infacol’s Expert Midwife Nikki Khan says ‘Infacol want to give new mums and dads someone to turn to when in need of this extra support and guidance, at any time of day or night’. The Virtual Colic Clinic app follows the success of the ‘Is It Colic?’ web app which helps to identify whether a baby has colic through 10 simple yes/no questions.

As I prepare for the arrival of my second baby later in the year I’ll be bookmarking www.colichelp.co.uk for help if I suspect colic.

I was sent a goody bag by Infacol in return for sharing this information with you.

me&i Ladieswear Review

One of my favourite things about writing this blog is the chance to discover and work with brands that I may otherwise not have come across. One of these is me&i, a fantastic clothing company specialising in Swedish design. Little Lady was lucky enough to be able to review a dress from them a while ago and so I was very excited to be given the chance to review an item for myself this time!

Yes as well as the fantastic range of childrens clothing, me&i have an increasing range of ladies clothing too. What was originally a complimentary range to the childrens collection, is now a gorgeous complete ladies collection.

I chose to review the Big Flowers Foldover Dress which is from the Spring/Summer range and is priced at £50.

I love the bold bright print of this dress, and find the A-line shape very flattering over big hips! The tie at the waist allows the dress to really show off your shape. I wore this for a meal out on Fathers Day. Thanks to the terrible weather at the time I teamed it with thick tights. I couldn’t bring myself to wear knee length boots in June, but when winter rolls around thats how I will wear it. It is however, a spring/summer piece and when the weather allows I’ll be wearing it in the sun with leggings!

The Autumn 2013 range of ladies and kidswear will launch on 14th August. I’ll be popping onto the website to have a look at whats new!

me&i has a team of sales representatives across the country and you can hold a party or order directly from them. Why not visit their website to find out more! They are also on the look out for new people to join the sales team across the country. More details on the website if you might be interested.

Washingpool Farm Shop with Ice

Last Friday I was delighted to be invited to Washingpool Farm Shop with Tots 100 to find out a bit more about Ice. I wrote about using Ice when shopping online last week, but I didn’t understand how it worked in local farm shops until Friday!

Little Lady and I headed off in the car on Friday afternoon and drove over to Washingpool Farm Shop near Bridport. When we arrived we were treated to a lovely tea party complete with freshly baked cakes and cups of tea. While we ate (and ate) and drank we were able to find out a lot more about the Ice Loyalty scheme and how it works. We discovered that if you want to use Ice at these shops you need to pick up an Ice card (these were readily available at the shop) and then hand it over when you shop to get your points. You can then spend points in the same way, by handing over the card at the till. I was able to get a lovely selection of farm shop veggies and cakes with my points.

This is what makes Ice unique among loyalty schemes. The fact that it can be used in these small retailers is a fantastic plus. It helps bring customers to smaller local businesses which is a brilliant thing. We love to support local farm shops and the quality of the food you can buy is so much better than the supermarkets.

To find local retailers in your area you can visit this page on the Ice website and put in your postcode to find out what is in your area. We also heard a lot about Ice’s environmental slant. All the companies that Ice works with are selected for their environmental credentials. So by shopping with Ice you know you are supporting green companies.

Thank you to Ice, Tots 100 and Washingpool Farm Shop for a lovely afternoon :)

Review – The Bedding Company

One of my favourite things about our new house is that we have a lovely spacious spare room, perfect for when family and friends come to stay. As we bought a bigger Kingsize bed for our bedroom, we moved our old double bed up to the spare room. We treated ourselves to all new bedding for our bed, but needed to give the spare bed some tlc to make it more comfortable for visitors, to make up for them having to climb an extra staircase to get there!

When The Bedding Company got in touch with me to see if we wanted to review something from their Bedding Sets range, I knew we should use it to give the spare bedroom a lift.

I chose to review the Silentnight Superspring Double Mattress Topper and Pillow Pair. This set included a lovely quilted mattress topper and a pair of lovely soft pillows. When I put the mattress topper on the bed I could immediately see how the quilted top added to the comfort of the bed. I made the bed up and thought how nice and comfy it would be for the next visitors we have. A few times since, I’ve escaped up to the spare room to read on the bed as its so comfortable! The pillows are lovely and soft too, the kind you can sink into so I think we’ve succeeded in making the spare room a lovely comfy place to stay :)

Disclosure: I was sent a bedding set worth £28.50 to review for this post. All opinions are my own.

Getting Personal Trinket Box review

For Mothers Day I received some lovely gifts and treats from the little lady, as well as a home made card produced at nursery. In my little bag of treats was a lovely personalised trinket box from Getting Personal

20130318-202047.jpg

I love this trinket box! It’s well made and very good quality. I loved the Purple Ronnie design and for just £14.99 it makes a lovely gift. Of course it doesn’t just have to be for Mothers Day, it would make a lovely Birthday or Christmas gift. There are so many fabulous gift ideas on the Getting Personal website, I’ll be looking next time I have a gift to buy.

Poundland Weekly Essentials Challenge

Like most people, I am always on the lookout for ways to save a few pounds on my food shopping. I am realising that to get the best deals you need to shop around, and not do your whole weeks shop in the closest supermarket!

Poundland recently got in touch with me to offer the chance to take a look at their Cupboard Essentials, and see whether we could save some money. We were sent a £15 voucher to spend.

Look how much I got!!

Three carrier bags full! I was very surprised by the range of products available. I wouldn’t have thought of Poundland for bread, eggs or sausages, but all were available. I was also surprised that there were offers, like 3 for £1 or 3 for £2 which gave even better value.

So lets have a closer look…

  • Mini Cheddars
  • Jacobs Cracker Selection
  • 3 pack of Heinz Baked Beans
  • 2 packs of Cadbury Chocolate Chip Cookies (2 for £1)
  • Pack of 3 Ambrosia Chocolate Rice Pudding
  • 1.5kg Plain Flour
  • 3 tins Harry Ramsden Mushy Peas
  • 4 pack Ambrosia Custard pots
  • HP Guiness Sauce
  • 4 pack Apple and Pear Fruit Shoot
  • 10 pack Cadburys Mini Rolls
  • Chocolate Chip Harvest Chewy bars
  • 500g Napolina dried pasta
  • 2 250g Tilda Basmati Rice pouch
  • 375g (+50% extra free) Honey Waffles cereal

I’ve just put this shopping basket into www.mysupermarket.co.uk and it gave me a range of prices between £24 and £27 (approximate as not all items were listed like for like). This gives a fantastic saving of at least £9. I’ll certainly be stocking up from Poundland again!

Disclosure: I was sent £15 voucher to spend at Poundland for this post. No other payment was received and all opinions are my own.

Me&I Clothing Review

Last year I was lucky enough to spend a fabulous day at The Baby Show seeing lots of lovely products and meeting new companies. One of my favourite that I met that day was Me & I, who were showcasing their gorgeous Swedish design clothing. After the show, they were kind enough to send me a dress for Pumpkin and now (very overdue) I want to tell you what we thought of it.

The dress we were sent was a Red Singoalla with Rabbit in Pocket. This particular design isn’t available now, but there is a very cute blue panda version instead!

The dress is a terry tunic, with elasticated neck and sleeves. The dress is an A-line design that is very flattering and practical for a little’un!

We absolutely loved this over the summer. It was a great dress to wear when we went swimming, as it was very easy to get dressed back into after (getting a toddler dressed after swimming without getting everything soaking wet is a pretty tricky task!). It also came into its own on holiday, when it was a great option to chuck on over a swimming costume when we went to the beach. The style and terry fabric made it very practical for playing on the beach, and it was a dream to wash and dry ready to wear again.

The beauty of many of the products sold by Me&I is that they last a long time. Pumpkin was wearing this dress last summer, but the A-line shape means that now she has grown she can wear it with leggings or trousers, as a long-line top. With a long sleeved babygro or t-shirt underneath to cover the arms, she can really wear this all year round! Our dress has been washed many many times, but still looks as good as new which shows the quality!

There were some other great design features in the Me&I range which are worth pointing out. Trousers with double fabric at the knees (hard wearing), adjustable elasticated waists and sleeves designed to be rolled up if they are too long. All these are great for getting value for money. The dress we reviewed is sold for £23 which is a fair price when you consider we are getting a whole year of wear from it.

Me&I products are sold primarily through parties, where a representative will show the products and how to put them together. There are discounts available for party hosts if thats something you fancy! Alternatively you can shop directly with a representative by visiting the website and filling in a form to find your local rep.

We are big fans of the clothing ranges from Me&I and I’ll be looking at the new season range to pick up some more wardrobe staples.

Disclosure: We were sent a dress from Me&I for the purposes of this review. No payment was received and all opinions are our own.

CBeebies The Album – Review

Pumpkin has just turned two, and one of her latest things is dancing. She loves to dance around to the radio, songs on the adverts, and to the theme tunes from her favourite TV shows. Music is also a great way to keep her entertained in the car, and she likes to sing along (translated into babble!) which is great when we are in the car.

We have a few CDs of nursery rhymes and kids tunes but to be honest they are all really irritating and I can’t stand listening to them! So when we were offered a chance to review the new CBeebies Album I couldn’t wait to play it for her.

We really enjoyed this album. The 2CD collection has 50 tracks from all the favourite CBeebies shows. Its great as they are all familiar to Pumpkin, and Mummy knows all the words too! The album is available from all the usual places and would be a perfect Christmas present for your little person!

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of the CBeebies album to review.
